Verdant City Spaces is a speculative design project exploring how urban green spaces can foster community engagement and environmental sustainability. Created for my Research and Development Methods course, this project leveraged IDEO’s design toolkit to conduct in-depth user research, prototyping, and stakeholder mapping to develop a solution centered around community-driven green spaces.

Research & Community Engagement

We conducted both primary and secondary research to ensure our solution was rooted in real community needs. Our primary research included direct engagement with city residents, where we pitched our idea and gathered feedback on what they wanted in their neighborhoods. Secondary research involved creating ecosystem and stakeholder maps to understand the broader social and environmental impact.

User-Driven Prototyping

To visualize and refine our concept, we took a co-creative approach, inviting community members to sketch and describe their ideal urban green spaces. This participatory method helped shape our prototype, ensuring it aligned with actual user desires while addressing gaps in existing public spaces.

Design Solution & Final Prototype

Based on our research insights, we developed a functional prototype that balanced environmental impact with social usability. The final design proposed an interactive, adaptable green space model that could be implemented in various urban settings, fostering sustainability while promoting local engagement.
